Flower Power and the Forgotten Language of Plants. The autonomic nervous system is a control system functioning largely below the level of consciousness. Since 2001 I have been studying the art of distillation and over the years I have had the privilege to be a part of the growing hydrosol movement. It is important to realize however that hydrosols--in and of themselves--are not energetic by nature or considered homeopathy anymore than adding water to concentrated orange juice creates a orange homeopathic remedy. Every year the Healing Garden Health Expo brings together the cream of Kauai’s healers and

environmental warriors. This year, the event was held at the Kilohana

Plantation. Built in 1936, the mansion at Kilohana is the finest example of plantation era architecture in Hawaii.

The featured events included a unique Hawaiian lei competition with the categories of Edible, Aromatherapy and Recyclable.

There was also a local food

competition with a huge selection of local food

Our table was right by the food vendors where we had the pleasure of sampling some of the finest of Kauai’s local food including Kauai made ice cream and vegetarian fare that was fantastic.

How can it be that one little word “Repellent” can send shivers of fear and frustration down the spines of natural product producers such as Kauai Herbals? For the past 2 years we have been developing an all natural highly effective “repellent” for mosquitoes, fleas and ticks.
Driven by the desire to truly help people by giving them an alternative to DEET products, we have received nothing but frustration and grief when trying to register this product with the FDA and EPA. It is totally insane! For one thing it’s upwards of $150,000 and the bureaucratic red tape is so confusing and convoluted it most certainly is devised to scare us little guys away. How can these government agencies who claim to be in the business of protecting American consumers make it so difficult for small business to compete regardless of a products effectiveness? It’s no big surprise that these government agencies cater to big business but as natural product producers and a small business, we refuse to be bullied.
